Face exfoliators and peels help remove dull surface build-up and add a targeted smoothing step to an at-home skincare routine. The Glamu Exfoliators & Peels collection includes physical scrubs, peeling gels, enzyme peels, exfoliating masks, cleansing powders and formulas with AHA, BHA, PHA or LHA. Choose from rinse-off products, cleansing formats and leave-on toners according to your preferred method and the individual directions.
Physical scrubs use fine particles or a textured base to lift surface residue through gentle massage. Enzyme products help loosen protein-based bonds between surface cells, while acids exfoliate through chemical action: AHA works mainly on the surface, oil-soluble BHA is often used in pore-focused formulas, and PHA or LHA may offer different exfoliating profiles. Peeling gels form visible rolls as they are massaged, but this material can include the product’s own polymers as well as loosened surface residue.
Application varies significantly between products. A scrub, mask, enzyme peel or cleansing powder is generally rinsed away, while an exfoliating toner may remain on the skin. Follow the exact amount, contact time and frequency stated on each label. Avoid the eye area, damaged or irritated skin and aggressive rubbing. If you are new to exfoliation, introduce one product gradually and do not begin several strong active formulas at the same time.
Keep the rest of the routine gentle and hydrating after exfoliation. Combining a peel with retinol, another leave-on acid, an exfoliating cleanser or a scrub in the same routine may be too intensive for some skin. Alternate products when appropriate and reduce frequency if the skin becomes dry, uncomfortable or visibly irritated. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen during the day and follow the warnings on stronger or specialised formulas.
Questions & Answers
What is the difference between a scrub, enzyme peel and acid exfoliant?
A scrub exfoliates through gentle physical friction, enzymes help loosen protein-based bonds between surface cells, and acids such as AHA, BHA, PHA or LHA exfoliate through chemical action. Each format has different directions and should not be used interchangeably.
How often should I exfoliate my face?
Frequency depends on the product strength, format and your skin’s response. Some gentle cleansing formulas may be used more regularly, while stronger peels may be intended only a few times per week or less. Always start with the label’s minimum recommended frequency.
Why does peeling gel form small rolls on the skin?
Peeling gels often contain polymers that gather into visible rolls during massage. The rolls may also pick up oil and loosened surface residue, but they are not made entirely of dead skin. Use light pressure and avoid prolonged rubbing.
Can I use an exfoliator with retinol or another acid?
Layering several strong exfoliating or active products can be too intensive. Consider using them on different evenings and keep the supporting routine simple. Follow all product directions and seek professional advice if you are unsure about a complex active routine.
Do I need sunscreen after exfoliating?
Yes. Broad-spectrum sunscreen is an important part of the daytime routine when using exfoliating products. Apply it generously according to the label, reapply when required and limit excessive sun exposure.
